Rev. David P Griffiths reporting: An examination of Norman Grubb's (WEC Pioneer with C.T. Studd & Ministry Colleague of Rees Howells whose College trained Reinhard Bonnke & D.P. Griffiths father - William Griffiths) Biblical Revelation that will change your life if ye can receive it. Warning: this will affect any religious tradition ye may have!

I believe with all my heart Norman Percy Grubb found the key to entire sanctification and it is this experience my heart longs to share with you now. I know not the path God is going to take me through this - but it is through the revelation God gave through Norman Grubb that I know that God is leading, writes Rev. David P. Griffiths.

God initially, however, has taken me to Tozer recognizing his revelation in "The Old Cross and the New" in Booklet 1 and how Tozer reacted to Grubb's revelation. He declared that the saint must walk alone, in other words if you are to receive this your path will no longer be with the World - but with God.

A.W. Tozer - The Saint Must Walk Alone!

The truly spiritual man is indeed something of an oddity. He lives not for himself but to promote the interests of Another. He seeks to persuade people to give all to his Lord and asks no portion or share for himself. He delights not to be honored but to see his Saviour glorified in the eyes of men. His joy is to see his Lord promoted and himself neglected. He finds few who care to talk about that which is the supreme object of his interest, so he is often silent and preoccupied in the midst of noisy religious shoptalk. For this he earns the reputation of being dull and over serious, so he is avoided and the gulf between him and society widens. He searches for friends upon whose garments he can detect the smell of myrrh and aloes and cassia out of the ivory palaces, and finding few or none he, like Mary of old, keeps these things in his heart.

It is this very loneliness that throws him back upon God. "When my father and my mother forsake me, then the Lord will take me up." His inability to find human companionship drives him to seek in God what he can find nowhere else. He learns in inner solitude what he could not have learned in the crowd that Christ is All in All, that He is made unto us wisdom, righteousness, sanctification and redemption, that in Him we have and possess life's summum bonum.

In introducing Grubb's revelation we understand from Tozer the immense sacrifice that comes with receiving this understanding of course - that sacrifice being our life for his - life being a person and not a thing and so by swopping our life for his we become the manifestation of HIS LIFE rather than ours. This makes understanding Grubb's revelation so much easier.

Let me share with you three letters - one from A.W. Tozer to Norman that speaks of the impact the revelation through Norman has had on World Missions and secondly two letters my father received from Norman saying that there never was an independent me - formerly "walking Satans" - now by grace "walking Christs". Please stay with me with this - it is revelation of a depth that will offend the human academic mindset - this is a walk with God and as God in the spirit.

Letter One from Tozer to Grubb 1951

Letter One - Tozer to Grubb 1951

Here Tozer clearly has intimated to Norman Grubb the need for his type of ministry and its distinct service to world missions meaning to me that if we in the Sons of God Network & The Pentecostal Holiness Church Continuing can actually grasp what this is - we can affect the World as Grubb & Tozer clearly did - not as US but AS HIM!

Letter Two is a letter from Grubb to my father that seems controversial but if we can leave our prejudices behind & grasp the reality of the main statement - the sphere which God has intended for us can be realised.

Letter 2 - Grubb to Griffiths

Key Points from the Letter:

  • "Once being joined to Satan ... now thru Calvary joined to Christ."

  • Never just an "independent me"

  • "Formerly walking Satans, now by Christ walking Christs"

  • "Hungry ones leap (reference to USA)"

  • "Witness of the Spirit who they really are - no condemnations, but just BEING He as Us"

Letter Three is a further letter from Grubb to my father ...

Letter 3

Additional Points from the Letter

  • The "delusion of just I"

  • Soul body called "flesh" become the beautiful God created container and "expressor of the Spirit it contains, thus likened to vessel, branch, temple, slave, wife, body-member." Rom. 6-8; Gal. 2:20

  • Rom. 7:17 revelation = Not "me" "but sin in the flesh"

Rom. 7:17 Now then it is no more I that do it, but sin that dwelleth in me.

In our grasp of entire sanctification glory we move to a realm of understanding of our "I" becoming him - there being a dying to the old life (life a person - not a thing - no independent me) and taking on of the new life - this life being the LIFE of John 14:6 = CHRIST AS US.

Norman Grubb eloquently was able to defend with all his heart his God given revelation. I can bear witness that totally independently of reading Grubb's letters to my dad, God had given the very same revelation and finding my dad's letters excited me to such a degree that I wanted to blurt this out everywhere I went. This placed us into a position where we have constantly been misunderstood and spoken falsely of from those in "Churches" of the new Cross that do not portray a complete slaying of the old life as the Old Cross does. Tozer's exposure, therefore, of the Old Cross is important in understanding Grubb's perfectionist position as this can only be achieved by beginning at the Cross of Galatians 2:20 - I am crucified with Christ.

In defending the "Christ As Us" doctrine to a friend Grubb accepted differentiations between "HIM" and "us" as we have done under Dimensions 1 &2 in the beginning article of this part of Network News. Norman, however, in his defence comes in with a majestic "but" for in the Bible we find men operating as God. The Ex. 7:1 statement of God making Moses a "god" is cited as is Jesus declaration that we are all "gods" - that is those to whom the Word of God has come. Norman seems to cite continuous examples of this saying Jesus as "son of Man" his favourite title would use the word "I" whilst saying at the same time that he would do nothing outside the Father's instruction. In other words we see Jesus operating as "I" - yet not I for he was constantly under the control of the Father - yet I John 5:7 clearly describes all members of the Trinity being one - but then Jesus declared we are one in them.

I John 5: 7 For there are three that bear record in heaven, the Father, the Word, and the Holy Ghost: and these three are one.

I John 17:21 That they all may be one; as thou, Father, art in me, and I in thee, that they also may be one in us: that the world may believe that thou hast sent me.

Under the heading of "Eternal Duality" Grubb describes both perspectives of oneness and duality being true, which is exactly our position in Sons of God Network. Grubb Biblically proves what we are calling the "Third Dimension, and what he called "The Liberating Secret" but I John 5:7 which those who only hold to Dimensions 1 & 2 have difficulty in handling.

I John 4:17 Herein is our love made perfect, that we may have boldness in the day of judgment: because as he is, so are we in this world.

We see here in proving our entire sanctification perspective a link between perfection, boldness and being HIM. We present this as proof of what was once called sinless perfection, this perspective being impossible with the old self - but more than possible through the shed blood of Jesus - the Jesus of the Old Cross from than the one of Tozer's exposed new one! This new Cross brings about a continuous sin-consciousness whereas the Old One slew this understanding with a consciousness of Christ Jesus - the Jezebel of the "New Cross" Churches placing those into a "God loves you anyway mode" rather than the I - yet not I Gal. 2:20 belief.

Fred Pruitt declared that a meeting with Norman changed his life and may I suggest we move into the Norman mode of thinking in taking on problems, difficulties and oppressions because if we do we will speak out in missions in exactly the way God intended.

That meeting changed everything. It set the tone of my life and gave me the theme of the rest of my life, because the Spirit broke through to me, having conditioned me through the experiences of the previous seven years, to HEAR for the first time, words that had only been words to me before, that HE lives in ME, and that the "government shall be upon his shoulder" (Is 9:6), and that HE is living my life. "YOU ARE HE," he said over and over. Big, mighty words, hard for the flesh to swallow, but which nevertheless penetrated into the depths of my inner spirit and made me cry "Abba, Father."

I went to Norman for help from him to solve my problems, but he wouldn't even touch them, didn't even SEE them, but just told me WHO I AM, despite them! And the "WHO" is the operative part of that, because I didn't hear a "message," didn't latch onto a "teaching" or a "doctrine," but saw the "WHO" of WHO I AM. HE, Jesus Christ, the Son of the Living God, through the Holy Spirit, I saw, IS my very Life! Norman didn't fuss with me about my frustrations and fears and problems and the terrible darkness that had overtaken me -- he just "turned on the Light" - and darkness fled!

"Christ As Us" is the simple description - how else to be fully sanctified than being simply HIM, not denying the differentiations of Dimensions 1&2 but also not denying that as HE IS - so ARE WE!

Eph. 5: 30 For we are members of his body, of his flesh, and of his bones. 31 For this cause shall a man leave his father and mother, and shall be joined unto his wife, and they two shall be one flesh. 32 This is a great mystery: but I speak concerning Christ and the church.
